Volume 4: Forever Stalwart Crossing the Plains: "A Time of Enduring"

Volume 5: Forever Stalwart in Utah: "A Time of Refining"

Volume 6: Forever Stalwart Documents: "A Time of Remembering"

"Honey, your book is too big and heavy to read in bed" my Auntie said.

Then I met a sweet lady waiting in the doctor's office. We talked about the book. Two weeks later she left the following message on my answering machine.

Forever Stalwart in Ohio: A Time of Discovery

“He felt a wild pounding in his chest and the sensation of being trapped in a gigantic bubble where treading water with all his might was necessary just to stay afloat. He had to do it. He had to say what he felt in his heart. This was the place. Surely it was the time.” (page 33)

Forever Stalwart books teach real history by sharing the lives of real people.

Volume One explores early life in The Western Reserve, now Ohio where there was definately a lot to experience and to DISCOVER. Perhaps my favorite is when Titus and Diantha discover each other! (See quote below from their love story.)

Forever Stalwart in Missouri: A Time of Testing

"Diantha emptied her hands and interecepted his pacing. She put her arms around his neck and peered into his eyes.

After all she's been through, she still has the most beautiful eyes in the world, his mind told him.

'I thought we didn't keep secrects from each other,' she said. He said nothing. 'Let's go for a walk.' She tossed a shawl over her shoulder and took his arm." (page 95)

Forever Stalwart in Illinois: A Time of Sacrifice

Volume Three shares many behind-the-scenes stories of struggling, searching, and reuniting in the state of Illinois. So much was sacrificed by a humble people in that sacred place.

"Tuttle's Bakery ovens blazed all night as his family measured, kneaded, rolled, cut, pricked, and baked life- saving morsels in secret for fleeing Church Leaders the next morning.

"John welcomed an excuse to stay up late. Mary Ann, though typically quiet most of the night, threw her arms around her father's waist when at last he pulled the final batch of crackers from the oven.

"Don't you think, Father, that baking crackers for the brethern is like giving to the Lord?"

Tears renewed Ed's tired, bloodshot eyes. 'Oh yes my sweet daughter, I do.'" (page 185)

Introducing Volume Four

Forever Stalwart Across Plains: A Time of Enduring

"It pains my heart to leave so many dear friends in this forsaken spot," Diantha said. "I can't help but wonder if we hadn't come so far off the trail . . . if we hadn't had that wicked fire . . . Oh Titus, I cannot bear to lose any others!.

"They dwell in a far better place," Titus whispered. With reverence he stood and took the love-of-his-life by the hand. Deep in the blue of her eyes he sensed the power of eternity. in the house of the Lord with authority from God, she had been promised to him forever.

"It matters not where we live, but how; not where we are buried, but why. we must btrue to the faith and keep the covenants we have made with the Everlasting God." he paused for her to absorb his words. "Promise me, Diantha, no matter what coomes our way we will stay true to each other, to Christ, and to the cause of Zion." His words were alarming. "Promise me, Diantha. We must keep our covenants with the Everlasting God."

She closed her eyes with a slight nod. "Promise me, dear. together we must be stalwart forever!

Diantha looked toward heaaven and smiled. "Forever Stalwart!" she said. Billings' wagon was the last to pull out of Ponca and head back to Winter Quarters." (page 51)

Volume Four follows the Saints across "The Plains" - Iowa, Nebraska, and Wyoming as they journey West for religious freedom. The hardships, challenges, and sacrifices along the way made it a "Time of Enduring" and a time of truly relying upon God.

Forever Stalwart in Utah: A Time of Refining

Volume Five reveals pioneer life in a new, unwanted, untamed desert and displays how through the refining process an industrious, devoted, stalwart people obeyed their God and made that desert blossom like a rose.

"And then it happened. March 1, 1850 Chief Walker rode his white horse to Morley's dugout and called to its owner. His squaw ,among others rode with him. Never before had he threatened the colonists. He wanted them herer on his land. They were friends.

Isaac Morley was not prepared for his senseless demand.

"Exchange papoose for colony!"

Stunned, Isaac could not coomprehend the request, or rather, the demand. His bright-eyed baby boy? The love of his life? Sacrifice for the safety of the entire settlement? No, no. He was wukkubg to givie u anything ele . . . but not his innocent eighteen-month-son! (page 71)
